About Us

TheIndependentGolfer.com covers all things GOLF!

My name is David Shelly and golf has been my passion since early childhood. For more than three decades now, I’ve been trying to make sense of this crazy game.

Over the years, I have honed my craft and developed into a strong player. My father, also a scratch player, started teaching me the game as soon as I could hold a club.

I benefitted greatly from early childhood exposure to the game, but golf can be an intimidating sport for new players. That’s why I started The Independent Golfer. Golf is the greatest game ever played, and I want to help more people experience its joys.

Nothing compares to the feeling of a well struck iron, the camaraderie among a foursome rushing to finish before sundown, or the humility of missing a short putt to win a big match.

Arnold Palmer described golf as “deceptively simple, endless complicated” and he was exactly right. The objective is straightforward, get the ball in the hole in as few strokes as possible. However, as anyone that’s played the game can attest, it’s a lot trickier than that.

So, I wanted to create an outlet for my passion and help new players and golf fans learn this amazing game. I am not a professional instructor, so instead, this website will focus on all things golf.

We’ll discuss the interesting and sometimes odd golf terminology, as well as the many different golf games and golf course betting options available to players. I’ll also include golf club and product reviews as well as golf guides and strategies to help you make the most of your golfing experience.

Overtime, I hope to include content on golf courses and develop other resources to support new players starting their journey into the golfing world.

Come play with us! This wacky game of golf has tons of amazing things to teach you. And who knows - maybe I’ll see you around the course someday!
