Local Scottish Music
Some pubs and clubs in the larger towns and cities of Scotland may feature local musicians who offer an evening’s entertainment. Happily, the imported rock, pop and disco craze is subsiding in Scotland in favor of traditional music or its modernized versions. One exciting trend is the recent attempts to meld celtic and world music. There is a difficulty for a visiting golfer in finding local music happenings. VisitScotland places typically don’t feature information about entertainment intended for local people and so a traveler might never be aware of the possibilities. Locals seem just to get to know about them, without benefit of large advertising campaigns. Talking to people is the best bet, or looking for flyers printed on paper stock and taped into the windows or local shops. Here are a few sites that you can look at before your trip to get an idea of what the Scottish music scene is like.
